August 2012

Looking at that last post makes me sad. That was SO long ago, and Thomas is gigantic now compared to then. It's amazing how much he has changed in the last year. I'm going to attempt to catch us up really fast since now I have a new little one's journey to chronicle. So without further rambling,
August 2012:
We played at the Splash Pad at Dwayne Hayes for the first time! (This would be come a BIG hit Summer 2013!) It took him awhile this trip to get warmed up to it, but he had fun!

Thomas started his second year at Parent's Morning Out! He LOVED school this year!

One of his best friends turned one and we helped celebrate! Thomas dragged (drug?!) that cow all over the party!

Played in the sprinkler at Grammy and Poppa's house!

Luke wasn't so sure about the wet grass on his feet, so I helped him out!

Played in his new swimming pool...

and sand table. Yeah. That's my kid eating sand. What can I say?
So that's August in a nutshell. At least according to my photos anyways!

18 Months Old (LATE!)

13 Months

18 Months
I had all the pictures in this post loaded and ready just waiting on the 18 month picture to be added with the update...and now it's November and I'm just now adding that picture. Needless to say, I cannot remember just exactly what Thomas was learning to do during the months pictured here. As you can tell from his 18 month picture, lots of bumps and bruises were a part of our life. It seems like every time his forehead gets all cleared up, he bangs into something else or falls and gets another goose egg. He discovered his fascination with blankets--as you can see in his 15 month picture. He requires that the entire blanket be covering him--no sharing allowed. He stopped sleeping in the Woombie pretty quickly after his birthday, but kept it as a lovie. We don't go anywhere that sleep is required without it. Luckily, he usually leaves it in his crib during the day unless he wakes up particularly cranky. We slowed nursing down to three times a day (wake-up, nap, and bed time). I know that still seems like a lot to most of you, but for Thomas its really good considering he nursed every 2 hours for most of his first year (about 8-10 times a day). He jabbers a lot and we can understand many of his words. I can't remember just exactly which ones were popular during this time, but I know he talked! His signs also started showing up more and more after his birthday...please, thank you, more, and all done are most popular.

Thomas--Mommy thinks you are just adorable. I'm so thankful God chose me to be your mommy. Your personality keeps me on my toes. You are hilarious and so very social. You want to talk to everyone, and you are into everything. I love every minute of being your mommy--well most every minute, I do enjoy my sleep (which most nights, you are very cooperative, thank you!) I look forward to watching you continue to grow and blossom! Love with all my heart, Mommy.

Getting focused now.

Thomas Goes Gardening

We spent the Fourth of July at my Aunt Dot and Uncle Ken's house. We picked some vegetables in the garden, rode the mule, and Thomas explored the outside with freedom. He had an absolute blast running up and down the rows, chasing the cat, and riding the mule up and down the hills. He kept telling Aunt Dot "Go, go, go!" on the mule. (unfortunately we have no pics of that!)

Working hard!

Chasing Callie

The Loot: field peas, green beans, butter beans, okra, corn, eggplant, cucumbers (half eaten by Thomas) and a watermelon. ALL SHELLED. My aunts were so kind to come help us get everything shelled before we went home. It would have taken me 10 years by myself.

And squash. Missed these in the pic above!

Vacation 2012 Part 2

Just some more pictures of the beach!
Kaylea taking a nap in the sand?!

Some Father/Son time. :)

CHEESE! I think the sun is in his eyes! ha!

Sleepy Luke!

One second we are exploring the sand and the next:

Surprise! Big wave!

The second day, he decided he loved the surf. He would run down and then let the waves chase him back up into the sand.

Grinning for Mommy!

Family pic in the water! He like it for the first few minutes, and then had enough. :)

Vacation 2012 Part 1

We spent 3 beautiful days at Fort Walton beach with tons of family. My immediate and extended family on my dad's side (except one cousin and his wife) plus Michael's parents and two nieces had tons of fun. The weather was perfect save for some gusty wind. Everyone got along well. I had a fabulous time, and I think everyone else did too. Here are some pics:
Kaylea (niece on Michael's side)

Clara Beth (Kaylea's sister)

Pops and Clara Beth jumping the waves!

The youngest Burks generation playing in the sand. Ashley is holding her son Luke. I am holding Thomas. Uncle Keith is holding his grandson Martin.

Luke much preferred hanging out in the baby pool with every single toy we had.

Pa and Nanny relaxing in the shade.

Family pic!

Mommy and Thomas! (we don't have enough pics together!)
